Well, it's been 9 months since I last posted, and 9 months ago I posted about what happened 1 year ago.  A lot has happened since then.

We moved to Michigan for Bret's job a few months ago.  We tried to savor each day in Bloomington before we had to leave. And also before many of our dear friends had to leave too.  It was bittersweet to leave.  Mostly bitter. But we were excited to be making more money and live in a house.  It's been kind of a tough transition and we are still working on it and trying to remember that we need to be patient.  Things will work out. It seems good here for the most part.

One thing I never posted about was my Grandma Swensen.  She died of cancer a year ago in April. I grew up around her, so she has a special place in my heart.   I've missed her while living away from her and I miss her even more since she's left this world altogether.

Our house that we bought has a TON more space than we are used to and we are enjoying that.  It is an older house with plenty of potential projects.  The first one we have almost tackled is the kitchen.  My parents and Oli, who just got off his mission came out with all their tools in August and helped us with the kitchen.  I'm almost done and I think it's turned out great.  I will post before and after photos when I'm completely done.

This is the first year we didn't make a trip home.  Bret was trying to work on his dissertation and we were getting everything ready to move and start a new job, then we moved.  So we couldn't fit it in.  I'll just say that it was really sad. We sure were glad my parents and Oliver came to see us or I don't know how we would have survived.

A week before we moved from Indiana, the Temple there finally was finished and we went through the open house with our cousins.

We LOVE the lake!  It's like the ocean!

And I cut almost a foot off my hair, yes it was ridiculously long. It feels so nice and light.

I'm trying to write down the funny things our kids do and say.  Especially Landon, he says funny things a lot, he is very quotable.  And Ridge is turning out to be quite spunky and mixed with his vocal tendencies, he says some laughable things as well. I tend to forget them easily though.

Ridge was holding on to the back of the dining room chair and trying to spread his legs as far as he could. He said, "I really can not not do this, mom."  Landon, wanting to make him feel good about himself, said, "yes you can Ridge!"

Landon is in Kindergarten this year.  We do a lot of reading together.  I've noticed he has an aversion to reading the word, "road."  And the book we use starts to use that word a fair amount.  He always replaces it with "street."  I always thought he did that because he just figured out the correct word should be street according to the context of the story and sentence he was reading. But the other day he read it as "street," and I made a noise to let him now something was wrong, and he said, "but I don't want to say road, I want to say street!"

He also doesn't get why his name is spelled with an 'o-n' at the end.  He says it shouldn't be that way because it sounds like Land- ON, so he started writing it with an i or an e.  I try to convince him of vowels sounding like uh in words, but he is far from convinced. I might need to consider legal change if this persists.

Blogging Friends!  I changed our name on our google account slightly and now I can't view any of my "private" friend blogs.  If you read this and would like to invite me back, please do!

Anyway, still trying to catch up...

Yummy caramel apples with the neighbor kids

Kade turned 8! We had a lego party and they decorated their own lego piece brownie with m&ms.

homemade lego piñata

Kade got baptized!  My parents came out and Kade wanted my dad to speak at the baptism.  It was a great time.

We went to Chicago while they were here

We also went to an apple orchard playgroup trip, it was a lot of fun.

Some cousins came for the occasion.

In September we...

Were able to use some points to fly to California!  We stayed with some friends there. It was such a fun trip and we loved seeing old friends. This pool was in the backyard of one of our friends.

We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific which was a pretty amazing place.

At the next's friends place we got to go to Venice Beach.  It was also amazing.  Cathy(my friend) got boogie boards and we all had a blast on those.

Ridge actually loved the sand more than the water.  He loves rolling around in anything like that; dirt, rocks, sand.

We also went to Santa Monica Pier and road the rides.  We got bracelets which was our kids first experience with unlimited rides.  Needless to say they loved that too. Overall, it was a great trip, probably one of the most tiring trips I've ever taken, but still so fun.  And we didn't have to do Disneyland to have an awesome time.  :)
This was at the top of the Ferris wheel .

Kade did soccer

This was at a local farm where a bunch of local farmers get together and do a festival.

Last but not least, Landon learned how to ride a bike without training wheels.  He actually learned while we were in glacier park, but we didn't have a bike that fit him for a while when we got back home.  He picked it back up pretty good though.
